We get asked a bit about what someone needs to have to become an Assessor for an NZQA Provider or a Workplace Assessor.
Everyone should hold NZQA unit standard 4098 as a minimum. The level of experience and industry or content related qualification that you need to hold will vary between industries and their standard setting bodies such as Industry Training Organisations (ITOs) or NZQA.
The ITOs publish their own Assessor requirementswhich are generally published on the ITOs’ website
Standard Setting Bodies (SSBs) stipulate Assessor requirements for Registered and Accredited NZQA Providers in an Accreditation Moderation Action Plan. (AMAP) These documents are available on the NZQA website and can be accesssed on the unit standard search pages. Eg Unit Standard 4098.
You will need then need to click on the link that looks like this: “Show providers, AMAP & purpose »”
So what is an AMAP?
An AMAP or Accreditation Moderation Action Plan is written by Standard Setting Bodies (SSBs) who could be NZQA or an Industry Training Organisation.
Every single unit standard comes under a AMAP and each AMAP is the responsibly of a specific SSB.
The AMAPs communicate the required criteria for Providers and ITOs to follow when teaching and assessing against specific unit standards including the specific criteria to become an Assessor for a specific industry.
Accreditation is a process which demonstrates that a tertiary education organisation is has been given ‘permission’ to deliver and assess specific standards.
This is based on evaluations of an application and quite often a visit from NZQA and or the ITO to determine if the TEO has the capability to meet all of their requirements.
The Moderation section of the document outlines the national system and how accredited Providers must participate in the system.
AMAPs are published alongside unit standards on the NQF.
